Beyond the Gravestone: Hammond Cemetery Tour

Tour the historic Hammond Cemetery (Beech Island Cemetery) in Beech Island, SC. The program will begin at Redcliffe Plantation's historic mansion to learn about the death of SC Governor James Henry Hammond and will then follow the route of his mourners to the family cemetery. In honor of the 150th anniversary of the death of SC Gov. James Henry Hammond.
Dress for the outdoors - comfortable walking shoes (closed-toed) recommended.
Reservations required.Cost is $8/adult, $5/ages 6-16.

Join Redcliffe Plantation SHS's regularly scheduled 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm house tours and learn more about the SC gubernatorial election of 1842. Learn trivia and history about all of South Carolina's 116 governors. Vote for your favorite 1842 candidate and see if Redcliffe's own James Henry Hammond wins the ballot! $5/Adults, $4/Ages 6-16, $3/SC Seniors Call ahead if interested in the 11 am tour - may be cancelled some days for school programs.

An Evening with the Hammonds

Enjoy an evening in the parlor at Redcliffe Plantation as we explore the letters written by the Hammond family 150 years ago in November of 1864. We'll enjoy popular music from the time period, play popular parlor games, discuss Civil War alternatives to the unavailable coffee bean and look at original 150 year old letters written by Redcliffe owner James Henry Hammond to his son Harry Hammond during the war. Reservations required. $8/person
There is no heat in the historic home so please dress warmly if the weather is cold.
