We get all kinds of questions in our Talk To 12 in-box.

We got this one about one of the crime graphics we use on the air. John says he watches us every day, but somethings bothering him.

He writes: "Whenever the description of a "wanted" individual is shown, there's an accompanying graphic of an individual who is clearly African American, implying that all criminals are African American.
I believe some folks may find it offensive, and you may want to consider a change before you get a crop of angry picketers on Georgia Avenue."

Well, thanks for the heads-up George. Tell you what, we'll show you the graphic we use and let everybody weigh in.
He's pretty scary looking, but I'd like to see if anybody else thinks of our wanted man as black or white.

How in the world can you say this is a black man, or a white one at that. Give me a break! This is a sad world that we live in where we choose to make a race issue out of everything. Yea, the majority of crimes committed are by blacks, yea the majority of inmates are black. But who said that just because they are black, they had to break the law. My point is this, they facts sell themselves. Get your heart off your sleeve and find a cause worth yelling about.

Wow! There is always someone that makes something into nothing. When i look at this picture i dont even think of race. I see a criminal, a wanted "man" per say but in no way do i think this implies anything at all. It's just a graphic, let it be.

Clearly, this man is GRAY!!

Posted by: Wally Location: Augusta on Jun 1, 2008 at 06:44 PM
Good grief! Talk about creating controversey where there is none. I personally think the actual race of the suspect SHOULD be reported as it can and will assist in their capture. Anything is easier to find when you know what you're looking for. Good grief people, where has the element of common sense gone? As we are knee deep and getting deeper in this "Politically Correct" society, we are dumber today that ever before

Hey John, I see black, white, grey or gray. You may need to go take one of those eye exams.

When is Melissa Tune coming back?

That's a load of garbage. You sir, are part of the problem. No, not all criminals are African American and you're just reaching for a cause that simply isn't there. Why don't you go do something worthwhile?

what about headlice through the schools I know Garrett has this problem this whole year.My grandaghter has done her hair like 15 times everyday my daughter pulls eggs out they should line the kids up at luch time and check them one by one every week and dont let them back into school without checking them

I don't think he looks black. Just a person. Could be a manly woman. Haha. Chill people! It's a graphic. If you want to complain about the graphic, you can make one yourself and see if you can do better yeah?

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 27, 2008 at 08:59 AM
Why is everything always about race? This is just something else to complain about. I think the picture is just fine.

One word to Mr. Whiner: waaaaaaaaaa! Jeez, give it a rest, people. Quit trying to interpret things that aren't there for interpretation. Besides, if he was white, wouldn't that imply all crimes are committed by white people? Now I'm offended. Come to think of it, I'm already offended that you're offended. Now everybody's offended. Happy now? For cryin' out loud, get over yourself.

It's a computer graphic and in no way looks like a particular race. I wouldn't change it or let it bug me. Some people just look for things to gripe about.

Posted by: ldn Location: n. augusta on Feb 18, 2008 at 11:40 AM
I think if you put some hair on him, he'd look more white. And if you're going to get all politically correct, it's a male...not all crimes are committed by men either. It never even occured to me that this was an indication of what race commits more crimes. That's crazy. In my opinion, the same people who look for ways to point out prejudice in the world, have in effect created their own racism. Can't we all just get over ourselves and quit looking at everything as either for or against us. None of us; as individuals, as races, as nationalities, as religions, etc. are so important that the whole world revolves around just US. Stepping off my soapbox now. Have a great day! :)

I think it looks more like a white man than black. I don't want to seem racist but the nose is way too small to make me think it's a black man.

I'd been staring at the picture for a fair few minutes and I just don't really see it as being African-American. Sure, I can see where someone might think that if they stare at his hair/head, but that's about it. I had a friend look at it as well and she said that she didn't perceive it as being African-American or any other specific race. (She's half Afro-Amer.)

Posted by: Justin Location: NAugusta on Feb 1, 2008 at 06:42 PM
He looks gray to me!

Posted by: ron Location: augusta on Jan 31, 2008 at 10:21 AM
Your graphics do not indicate any race or color. Some people are going to be offended regardless of what you do. It is a chip that is carried on their shoulder for life.
