Today's Viewer Voice comes from Byron of Aiken.

I watch channel 12 evening news every chance I get. You and your news team keep on top of what's happening in the CSRA and as far as I can tell always report the facts. I like that, and you always have some good news to report besides just always the bad.

I must tell you that our country is going down hill every day. There is too much government in the family homes and in our public schools. As I sit back and listen to the news about kids being expelled from school for fighting it just burns me up.

Back in the 60's and 70's, for fighting the principal would take you out in the halls and take a wooden paddle to the seat of your pants. After that you did not want to fight and you stayed in school. You stood up every morning and with your right hand over your heart, faced the American flag and you said the pledge of allegiance. Every day you thanked God for the food at lunch. Back then you were not taught to call DSS to your parents when they tore your tail up for misbehaving.

Today there are a lot of parents that do not teach their children any manners or to show respect to their elders. Back in my days, if you showed disrespect to any grown up, you didn't think about sitting down for a very long time. (your tail was sore) What has happened to the teachers today, they don't even teach children manners.

Do you ever go out to a nice restaurant to eat a meal and find parents letting their children run wild, babies screaming or children throwing food on the floor and the parents act like they just don't care? What is happening to our country?

Hey what about DUI drivers? I saw a news show last night where a Florida Police Officer arrested people for DUI and when they were tested, ALL tests showed negative, and the Officer is still working to meet the status quo.

I think that if you are DUI and get caught, 1st time $2500.00 fine and 6 months no driving. If you are DUI and have an accident and someone is killed and its your fault, you should be hung to death.

We need to be more like the old days. You were hung in the town square after a fair trial for stealing a man's horse or killing another person. Well this should be true today, steal a person's car and be hung, kill another person and be hung. This stuff of keeping a man in prison for life cost the tax payers too much money.

Who makes our laws? Lawyers do, who gets rich in court? Lawyers do. They are the ones getting rich at the tax payers expense. The people should make the laws and they should be written to where a normal person can understand them. Also when in prison, you should be there for punishment, not color TV, computers, games, making money. Prison should be a place that when you get out, you never want to go back to.

One last thing, we live in America and our country's language is English. Have you ever went to an ATM to get some cash? The first question the machine asks is English or Spanish? We live in America, if we go to another country, they expect us to speak their language. If foreigners want to come here to live, then they need to learn the language! If they want to work here, then learn to speak our language and pay our taxes.

Thank you for allowing me to vent.

I agree with Byron from Aiken. you begin to wonder if you are the only that sees these problems. What is really bugging me is Rev Wright, is he just making offensive noise now because it's election year and he figures the timing will ensure he gets heard nationally? I don't think he cares if his rantings hurt Sen. Obama He is a very selfish man who has forgotten the Man he is supposed to represent.

It is screwed up and sadly, there is no turning back. It may take 100 years for this to happen but this country will not be a civilized society if it keeps going like it is. Everything around us now will be ruins... stick around and watch.

I think you answered part of the question...look at the problems in schools way back, compared to now. What changed? God was taken out of the schools. What about the problems with crime then and now? Our founding fathers wrote the constitution based on the 10 commandments. Guess what....God is being thrown out of the court system. If America would turn back to God as they did back in the day then maybe the world as we know it wouldn't be so bad.

There just seems to be less good in the world than back in the day. I'm 21 now and as a child I remember walking around my neighborhood alone and visiting friends on the other side of it without having to worry about being harassed or becoming paranoid. These days I'm afraid to be at home by myself because of how bad the community has become. Remember that song with the lyrics, "Back in the day, when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again"? I always reflect back to those particular lines when I take a long look around and feel myself becoming sad when I see what's become of us.
