Jake Young joined the News 12 family in June 2010 as the weekend sports anchor/reporter. He comes to the CSRA from Ohio University (go Bobcats!). He graduated in the spring of 2010 from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism.
During his time as a Bobcat, Jake was the sports director at WOUB-TV and Radio, the PBS affiliate in Southeastern Ohio and Northern West Virginia. In that role, he hosted the nationally televised Ohio University football coach's show, Bobcat Blitz, interviewing Ohio Head Coach Frank Solich and a different Bobcat player each week during the football season. He also was a field reporter for the Emmy-award winning high school football highlight show, Gridiron Glory.
Jake is a small town boy at heart, born and raised among the corn fields of Northwest Ohio. Sports and music were a key part of his upbringing, playing golf, baseball, football and wrestling and participating in his school's choir and show choir. He knew from a young age that sports broadcasting was his passion, and he took any chance he could to make that dream come alive, from announcing high school sporting events to reading the morning announcements.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing pick-up sports games, hanging out on the driving range and exploring the outdoors. He is a fiercely loyal Green Bay Packers fan (one of his greatest sporting experiences was sitting in -26 degrees at Lambeau Field for the 2008 NFC Championship Game), and he grew up rooting for the Cincinnati Reds.
He is new to the southeast, but he is happy to call Augusta his new home. He loves meeting new people and making new friends, so if you see him on the street, be sure to introduce yourself. If you have anything to say to Jake and don't see him around, feel free to find him on Twitter (@ItsJakeYoung), Facebook (Jake Young Wrdw) or by email (jake.young@wrdw.com).
