Matt Barnes

Matt joined the News 12 Sports team in July 2008. Coming all the way from Ohio, he is excited to cover all the sports action in the CSRA.

Matt is a graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens, OH. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. While at OU, Matt worked at WOUB, the PBS affiliate in Athens. He worked a variety of jobs from anchoring and producing sports to even helping out the news department. His most rewarding job there was hosting "Gridiron Glory", a student-produced high school football show that aired live every Friday night for Southeast Ohio. In 2007, the show was awarded a regional Emmy award for best student production.

As an intern at WCMH-TV in Columbus, OH, Matt had the opportunity to work with the state's best sports team, helping them with their coverage of the PGA's Memorial Tournament and the 2007 NHL Draft held in Columbus.

Matt was born and raised in Columbus, OH and is a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He is still licking his wounds from the 2007 and 2008 BCS Championship games and is not afraid to admit when his team is overmatched. When he's not watching sports, Matt is probably watching a reality show, relaxing with friends or working on his terrible golf game.
