Email Address: melissa.tune@wrdw.com

Melissa Tune is Co-Anchor of News12 First at Five. She joined New12 in February 2007. Melissa grew up in Virginia but also considers Augusta home.

Melissa has almost 12 years of television news experience. Before joining New 12, Melissa worked in Richmond, Virginia at Virginia’s powerhouse, WWBT-TV where she was a Reporter and Anchor-fill. Prior to that she worked in television in Washington, DC at WTTG-TV and Harrisonburg, Virginia at WHSV-TV as Bureau Chief and Anchor. Melissa has also worked on various video projects and public affairs projects for the U.S. Army and filled-in for SRTV, Soldier's Radio and Television.
Melissa is a Major and a Public Affairs Officer in the United States Army Reserves. Her dedication to the Armed Forces extends beyond her news coverage of soldiers and mlitary issues. Her news career has been put on hold twice in order to serve her country in active duty status. The first time, she was mobilized back in 2005 and deployed with U.S. Central Command (US CENTCOM) as the Forward Media Officer.
After her deployment, Melissa's next active duty assignment was with the Department of Army Headquarters, Office of the Chief, Army Public Affairs at the Pentagon where she served as Executive Officer to the Deputy Chief, Army Public Affairs.
Melissa left active duty and came to Augusta Georgia in 2007, only to learn that she was selected for Residency Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. She was new to the Augusta area but she again left her civilian job temporarily in order to fulfill her military obligation and military education. Melissa recently graduated from CGSC and returned back to the CSRA to continue doing what she loves best - telling stories about the military and its servicemembers.

The military has afforded Melissa opportunities to serve in the Middle East, Germany, Sweden and London, England. She has traveled the world being a part of the United States Army. During her 19 years, she has served in various military staff positions to include joint military assignments. She is very proud of her service and takes every opportunity possible to tell the Army's story, because she says it's the soldier's voice that's often not heard - that's why she believes in telling stories about issues that affect our military service members.

Melissa is from South Boston,Virginia and a 1993 graduate of Virginia Tech.
She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the National Association of Black Journalists, Native America Journalists Association, the Association of the United States Army, (AUSA) and ROA - the Reserve Officers Association.
