Jorge graduated from the University of Georgia in May 2011 with a degree in digital and broadcast news and a minor in religious studies.
Before becoming a Bulldog, Jorge graduated from Gainesville State College with his associate's degree in journalism. While attending GSC, Jorge was a beat reporter for The Voice, the student newspaper. During his time with The Voice, Jorge covered a wide range of subjects. However, interviewing public figures is how he earned his spot on the team. Jorge's most notable pieces were special features on former UGA Atheltic Director Damon Evans and former UGA Men's Basketball Coach Dennis Felton. Lopez credits these opportunities with awakening his passion for journalism.
After graduating from GSC, Jorge began his studies at UGA's Grady College of Journalism. While at UGA, Jorge worked for WNEG, which was Northeast Georgia's only television news outlet serving 26 counties. While at WNEG, Jorge had the opportunity to interview actor Danny McBride from HBO's "Eastbound & Down" and CBS Evening News Anchor Scott Pelley.
Soon after graduation Jorge joined WXIA-TV 11Alive News in Atlanta as an intern. At WXIA, Jorge again found a way to interview notable public figures like Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. He played a integral part in covering the tragic murder of 7-year-old Jorley Rivera from Canton, Ga. Due to Jorge's ability to speak Spanish, WXIA was the first station to interview Jorley's mother.
Jorge is glad to be a part of the News 12 team and looks forward to being out and about in the community. Jorge was a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs growing up in Conyers, Ga., and later began working with the club during his last year of high school and all through college. He looks forward to the opportunity to working with and helping kids in the Augusta area.
During his free time, Jorge likes to visit the beach, cheer for the Miami Heat and go to as many UGA football games as possible.
