Name: Richard Rogers
Title: 6 and 11 o'clock Co-Anchor
Email Address: richard.rogers@wrdw.com

Richard Rogers is the anchor for News 12 at 6 & 11 O'clock. He's been a member of the News 12 Team since October 1993, and has been in TV news since 1981.

Before coming to News 12, Richard worked as a news anchor at WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Florida WWAY-TV in Wilmington, North Carolina and WTOC-TV and WSAV-TV in Savannah.

Richard has won a number of awards over the years. His report "A Tale of Two Cities" in 2001 was awarded Best Specialized Reporting by the Georgia Associated Press. In 2003, Richard's series of reports about the economic effects of the possible closing of Fort Gordon received "Best Specialized Reporting" honors from the Georgia Associated Press. He has previously won AP awards for "Best Newscast", "Best Feature" and "Best Series."

Since coming to Augusta, Richard has anchored many live events for News 12, including The Masters, the Olympic Torch Run and the Children's Miracle Network Telethon. Richard has also reported dozens of live breaking news events, from hurricanes to the Atlanta Olympic games. His field anchoring from the scene of a plane crash in Augusta helped win News 12 a prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award.

He has often reported live from the Augusta National Golf Club during the Masters, covering a wide range of stories from Tiger Woods' first win to Arnold Palmer's final competitive round. He proudly admits his own 7-iron is still on the bottom of the famous pond on #16, having slipped out of his hand during a rainy round at Augusta National. As he puts it, "That club will spend many more nights at the National than I ever will."

Richard is a member of North Augusta's First Baptist Church, the Augusta Rotary Club and he's a popular volunteer for local schools and community organizations. He's also a percussionist who's performed with the Augusta Symphony and he's worked as narrator for the symphony.

Richard graduated with honors from Truett McConnel College in Cleveland, Georgia and Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. He's the founding chairman of the Broadcast Advisory Board at GSU, and in 2005 he was named Distinguished Alumnus for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

He met his wife, Jill, when they were both working at WTOC-TV in Savannah. She's a former news anchor and weather forecaster and now a full-time mom to their two children. When Richard isn't playing with the kids or playing the drums on his vintage 1970's Ludwig Amber Vistalite set, he likes to play golf, read and hang out on the coast.
