CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three members of the 2014 Georgia Southern Football team, Garrett Frye, Edwin Jackson and Brandon Thomas, were tabbed for Sun Belt preseason all-conference honors by Phil Steele Publications. Frye, a senior offensive tackle, was named to the offense’s third team while senior linebacker Edwin Thomas was named to the third team defense. Thomas was selected as the fourth-team honoree at punt returner.
Frye earned All-America honors from College Sports Madness and the Associated Press last fall. Jackson, the Eagles’ leading tackler in 2013, was honored by CSM as its player of the week after recording a game-high 10 tackles in Georgia Southern’s win over Florida. Thomas was also recognized by CSM and was placed on its 2013 third-team defense.
Georgia Southern will play its first FBS and Sun Belt Conference schedule this upcoming year. The Eagles kick off August 30th at N.C. State and play their league opener at South Alabama on September 20th in Mobile, Alabama. On September 6th, Georgia Southern plays host to Savannah State in a newly expanded Paulson Stadium in the home opener.
