COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's Steve Spurrier says quarterback Connor Shaw will start Saturday when the seventh-ranked Gamecocks play Missouri.
The coach also said Tuesday that the Gamecocks accept the Southeastern Conference's one-game suspension of safety D.J. Swearinger and he will not play against the Tigers (2-1, 0-1 SEC).
Spurrier says Shaw was cleared to play after being able to throw at practice. Shaw first injured his throwing shoulder in the season opener at Vanderbilt last month. After missing a game, the quarterback returned for last week's 49-6 victory over UAB but had to leave the contest after another hard hit. Shaw said after the game he had a hairline fracture.
The Gamecocks (3-0, 1-0) will be without Swearinger, who was suspended by the league for his helmet-to-helmet hit on UAB's Patrick Hearn.
