Regents to review Kennesaw State football proposal

Friday, January 4, 2013

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) -- The Georgia board of regents is considering a proposal from Kennesaw State University to begin a football program and add a Title IX women's sport to its athletic program.

School officials are scheduled to meet with the State Board of Regents Jan. 8, and say the board's decision will culminate a six-year process involving studies, student voting and fundraising focused on launching a NCAA Division I football program.

Director of Athletics, Vaughn Williams is set to join university President Daniel Papp Jan. 9 for a briefing on the board's decision.

The university competes in seven men's sports and nine women's sports in the 10-member Atlantic Sun Conference. With more than 24,600 students enrolled, Kennesaw State is Georgia's third-largest university.

Kennesaw is about 25 miles northwest of Atlanta.
