ATLANTA (AP) -- New Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer says he's "living a dream" as he makes plans to remain with the Spurs through the NBA finals before returning his full focus to his first job as a NBA head coach.

Budenholzer said at a news conference Wednesday he's "definitely not a sexy hire." He has never been a head coach and may be known only by Spurs fans.

Budenholzer spent the last 17 seasons as an assistant with the Spurs, including the last six years as Gregg Popovich's top assistant. He said he'll bring lessons learned under Popovich, including a strong defensive philosophy.

Hawks general manager Danny Ferry, who also came to Atlanta last year from San Antonio, says players will buy into Budenholzer's "clarity on a way to play."
