ATHENS ---- Cameron Forte, a 6-7 forward from Tempe, Ariz., has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend the University of Georgia and play next season for the Bulldogs, head basketball coach Mark Fox announced Wednesday.

Forte recently completed his freshman season at Howard College in Big Spring, Texas. He will have three years of eligibility at Georgia.

"We are very excited to add someone of Cameron's abilities to our program this spring," Fox said. "He's a versatile player who has a real knack for scoring the basketball. Those two things -- his versatility and his scoring -- should really help our team next season."

Forte averaged a team-high 22.5 points this season for Howard, which went 30-7 and reached the quarterfinals of the NJCAA tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. That average ranked fourth nationally among all Division I junior college players. Forte also averaged 7.5 rebounds and shot 63 percent from the field during his only season with the Hawks. Before the season Forte was ranked as the No. 33 junior college prospect in the country, by Jucorecruiting.com. After the season he was named to the NJCAA All-Region V team.

Forte graduated in 2012 from McClintock High School in Tempe, where he scored 36.2 points and pulled down 12.7 rebounds for a team that reached the Arizona Class 4A state championship game. He has twice been named to the All-Arizona team by the Arizona Republic newspaper, and as a junior he was named the area Player of the Year by the East Valley Tribune in Tempe.

Forte is the fourth UGA signee of the Class of 2013 and the second to sign in the spring signing period, which began Wednesday and will continue until May 15. He joins Kenny Paul Geno, a 6-6 forward from Booneville, Miss., who signed with the Bulldogs last week, as well as early signees J.J. Frazier, a 5-10 guard from Glennville, Ga., and Juwan Parker, a 6-5 guard from Tulsa, Okla.
