STATESBORO, Ga. - After winning six straight Southern Conference
games, the Georgia Southern Football team returned to No. 1 in this
week's FCS Coaches Poll. The top ranking was the first for the Eagles
since the week of Oct. 24, 2011.
Georgia Southern spent six weeks at No. 1 a year ago before falling
for the first time at Appalachian State 21-17. The Eagles finished the
2011 season ranked third in the coaches poll and opened the 2012
season at the same spot. GSU remained No. 3 after a shut out of
Jacksonville in the season opener but fell to No. 10 after losing to
The Citadel in week 2.
Georgia Southern is also ranked second in the Sports
Network/Fathead.com Poll this week. The Eagles received the most first
place votes in the poll but fell 23 points shy of tying North Dakota
State for the top spot.
GSU is hosting a “Blue Out” Saturday against Appalachian State and
will be playing for a share of their 10th Southern Conference Title.
The game will also air on ESPN3 and kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
