STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Head Football Coach Jeff Monken welcomed his fourth class of signees on Wednesday, February 6th, with 23 Eagles set to join the program later this year. Monken discussed the Georgia Southern Football Class of 2013 in an afternoon press conference at the Parrish Football Center.
“We are excited about this 2013 class and feel we have met our needs in a number of areas,” said Georgia Southern Head Football Coach Jeff Monken. “We’ll know more about this class after a couple of years of development in our program, but we anticipate that some, and maybe several, will contribute to our success as early as this fall.”
Running backs topped the position list with seven in the signing class followed by six defensive backs and five defensive linemen. Two offensive linemen, a long snapper, placekicker and quarterback were included in the 23. Eighteen of the 2013 Eagles signees hail from the state of Georgia with two from Florida and one each from New Jersey, Ohio and South Carolina.
Georgia Southern has posted 10 or more wins in each of the last three seasons and has been the only team to advance to the NCAA FCS Semifinals in each of those years. The Eagles are scheduled to kick off the 2013 season against Savannah State on August 31st.
