COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina coach Chad Holbrook understands his team's 27-game NCAA tournament win streak at home is comforting to supporters and daunting for teams who come to Carolina Stadium.
He also knows all those victories from the past won't mean much when the Gamecocks (42-16) open the Columbia Regional on Friday night against Campbell (40-19).
South Carolina hasn't lost an NCAA game at home since 2002 when it dropped the second of three Super Regional series contests with Miami before reaching the College World Series a day later. The streak has kept growing ever since and has included the Gamecocks unprecedented run of success with six CWS trips and national championships in 2010 and 2011.
Holbrook says nothing the program has done in the past will matter this time around.
