COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina leading receiver Bruce Ellington has returned to basketball practice Tuesday and is expected to play when the Gamecocks travel to No. 9 Oklahoma State Friday night.
Ellington called South Carolina coach Frank Martin on Monday night, asking if he could rejoin the team while the football Gamecocks took a break awaiting their bowl destination.
Ellington has shuttled between the sports for the past three seasons. This is his senior year in basketball, making him among the few upperclassmen on a Gamecocks club with eight newcomers -- seven of them freshmen.
Martin said Ellington will be part of the team until he goes back for bowl practices and the game. Ellington should return to basketball fulltime next month.
Ellington led the football team with 43 catches for 645 yards.
