KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- Atlanta Braves general manager John Schuerholz announced Thursday the team has signed catcher Brian McCann to a six-year deal.
Schuerholz says it's an unprecedented commitment to a player with less than two full years of major league service.
The contract runs through the 2012 season with an option for 2013.
McCann -- who was born in Athens, Georgia, and lives in Duluth near Atlanta -- says Atlanta is where he wants to play. In his words, "It's where I grew up. Not many people can say that."
