COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina basketball coach Darrin Horn says seldom-used center Mitchell Carter is leaving the Gamecocks.
Horn said Wednesday that the junior agreed to part ways so Carter could finish his career at a school where he might get more playing time.
Carter played a total of 84 minutes in 20 games last season. He scored eight points and had four rebounds in a 90-43 South Carolina win over North Carolina-Central.
Horn also said the Gamecocks are still working to finish next year's schedule.
The coach says he has called a number of major conference teams, but hasn't heard back. Horn says they might be waiting to see if ll-Southeastern Conference guard Devan Downey and fellow junior Dominique Archie return to school or stay eligible for the NBA draft.
