CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Clemson linebacker coach David Blackwell has left to become a co-defensive coordinator at South Florida.

The Bulls announced Blackwell's hiring Thursday. Blackwell will also coach linebackers for South Florida.

Blackwell spent the past six seasons coaching Tiger linebackers. He also served as recruiting coordinator his first three seasons at Clemson.

After Clemson defensive coordinator Vic Koenning left for Kansas State in December, Blackwell helped call the Tigers' defense during its 26-21 Gator Bowl loss to Nebraska.

The Tigers started spring football drills this week. They return to practice March 23 after spring break.
