Saturday, February 21, 2009. (AP) -- DeAngelo Mack had three RBIs and hit the first home run at Carolina Stadium as South Carolina opened its new home with a 13-0 win over Duquesne on Saturday.
Three Gamecocks pitchers combined to allow just one hit in front of 8,153.
South Carolina scored three runs in the first, with Parker Bangs driving in Whit Merrifield with a single to center to score the first run at the new stadium.
The Gamecocks led 4-0 after two and 10-0 after the fifth. Merrifield and Jackie Bradley Jr. each had two hits for South Carolina.
Sam Dyson (1-0) got the win, striking out six and walking two in five innings. He allowed Duquesne's only hit, a double by Mike Carroll.
Gary Pierpont (0-1) allowed four runs, three of them earned, and walked six in three innings to get the loss.
