ATHENS, Ga. --- Prep All-America lineman Kwame Geathers of Georgetown, S.C., signed a letter of intent with the University of Georgia Friday according to UGA head football coach Mark Richt.
Geathers, brother of former Bulldog defensive end and current Cincinnati Bengal Robert Geathers, was recently named defensive MVP of the Offense-Defense All-America game after recording eight tackles and two sacks.
"We're very excited about Kwame becoming a Georgia Bulldog," said Richt. "He's a fantastic player and a very, very good young man. We can't wait to get him in Athens and in position to help us win and continue to strive for championships. Of course, we had his brother Junior (Robert) Geathers who had an outstanding career at UGA and we really want to see the same thing happen for Kwame. He's a great kid, great family, and great for Georgia."
Geathers played his high school football at Carvers Bay High in Georgetown, S.C., under head coach James Thompson. He earned SuperPrep Magazine All-America honors in 2008 in addition to leading his team to the state championship game. As a senior he recorded 130 tackles and seven sacks. As a junior, he recorded 85 tackles and 10 sacks. He also finished fifth in the shot put at the 2008 state track and field championships.?
