STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern head football coach Chris Hatcher announced Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 17) that quarterback Antonio Henton has left the program to seek playing opportunities elsewhere.
Henton, a sophomore last year, played in all 11 games and started nine times. He completed 156-of-279 passes for 1,852 yards and 15 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. Henton rushed for 628 yards (3.9 ypc) with nine touchdowns.
He joined the Eagles last July after spending two years with the Ohio State football program. According to the NCAA one-time transfer rule, Henton will have to sit out a year leaving him with one year of eligibility remaining.
Hatcher also noted that rising sophomore Lee Chapple enters spring drills as the number one quarterback. Chapple earned the start in the regular season finale at #14 Furman, leading the Eagles to a 17-10 win while setting single-game passing records. Chapple set a Georgia Southern season record completing 64.5 percent of his passes (78-of-121 for 787 yards and five touchdowns in seven games). He missed two games late in the season due to an injury before returning for the finale at Furman.
