COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina has announced that Johnson "Jeep" Hunter is joining coach Steve Spurrier's staff.

The school announced Tuesday that Hunter will serve as tight ends coach and assistant special teams coordinator. He'll replace Ray Rychleski, who spent last season as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.

Hunter last coached in 2007, the second of two seasons with Georgia Tech. He's also coached at Memphis, Eastern Kentucky and Chattanooga.

Hunter is the last of five new assistant coaches hired by Spurrier since the regular season ended. The Gamecocks also hired a new strength coach in Craig Fitzgerald.
