USC Football Strugglles In The Classroom

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's football team struggled at the end of last season. But players also appeared to struggled in the classroom.

Athletic grade reports released Thursday show the Gamecocks posted a 2.374 grade-point average for the fall semester. That was the lowest GPA among the school's 17 athletic teams. It was also a drop from fall 2007, when the football team had a cumulative 2.540, which was the team's best in-season performance on record.

Two falls ago, the football team had a collective GPA of 2.304. The team lost its final three games to finish 7-6. Overall, South Carolina said its 500 student athletes had a cumulative mark of 3.006 for the fall semester.
