COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has hired one of his former Florida players to coach Gamecocks quarterbacks.
Spurrier said Friday he had hired G.A. Mangus, who was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Middle Tennessee State the past three seasons. Spurrier called Mangus was one of the country's best quarterback coaches.
Mangus was head coach at Division III Delaware Valley for four seasons before joining Middle Tennessee. Mangus was a quarterback at Florida from 1988 to 1991. He was part of Spurrier's first Southeastern Conference championship team his senior season.
Mangus takes over for David Reaves, who left last month to join the staff of his brother-in-law and new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin.
