COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Steve Spurrier has hired Illinois' offensive line coach to take on the same duties at South Carolina.
Spurrier said Tuesday that Eric Wolford takes over for John Hunt, who was let go in November after four seasons with the Gamecocks.
The 37-year-old Wolford was also the Illini's running game coordinator. Spurrier says South Carolina has to improve its run game and Wolford will be a key.
Spurrier said the Gamecocks will spend much of spring practice working on their running attack. Two seasons ago, Wolford's offensive line helped the Illini gain a school record 3,338 rushing yards. The line allowed only 16
sacks, also a school record.
Wolford has also coached at Arizona, North Texas, Houston, South Florida and Kansas State.
