COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Coastal Carolina's athletic department was placed on two years probation by the NCAA for financial infractions of former women's golf coach Brian Ashley.
The NCAA released its decision Wednesday. Ashley was not named specifically by the NCAA. However, he was the Chanticleers coach at time of the violations.
Ashley stepped down as Coastal Carolina coach a year ago. The NCAA report says Ashley gave two team members improper financial aid.
The NCAA said the infractions were narrow in scope and limited to Ashley and two women golfers. Ashley was given a 30-month show cause order should he pursue another college coaching job.
The NCAA said Ashley's conduct was unethical because of the willful and blatant nature of his violations and his refusal to cooperate fully with investigators.
