Sunday, August 24, 2008. (AP) -- Steve Spurrier is not judging South Carolina until he sees results on the field.
A year ago, the Gamecocks' coach thought his team might be ready to challenge for the top of the Southeastern Conference -- and he wasn't afraid to raise the expectations. That worked for a while as South Carolina opened 6-1 and was ranked in the top 10. However, the Gamecocks closed with five straight losses and missed out on a bowl game.
Spurrier says this year, he'll stay low key on the Gamecocks chances and let their game performance do the talking. South Carolina opens the season Thursday night at home against North Carolina State.
