Friday, August 15, 2008(AP) -- South Carolina starting quarterback Tommy Beecher knows he's got some work to do.
The Gamecocks No. 1 quarterback showed that Wednesday night with a ragged scrimmage performance. Beecher went just 15 of 30 for 123 yards and one touchdown pass. However, he was continually pressured and held onto the ball too long for coach Steve Spurrier's tastes.
Beecher acknowledged the problems and vowed to be ready for South Carolina's opener Aug. 28 against North Carolina State at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.
Spurrier says mistakes were expected and he planned to have Beecher coached up in time for the season.
