GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- It's almost time for Armanti Edwards and
Appalachian State to take center stage in the Southern Conference
again. The conference holds its media day on Wednesday, and one of the hottest topics is sure to be whether the three-time defending
winners of the Championship Subdivision can stage yet another huge
season-opening victory on a big-name team's home field.
The Mountaineers open at LSU next month in a matchup of the
champs of both subdivisions of Division I. A year ago, Appalachian
State became the talk of the nation when they stunned Michigan at
the fabled Big House. The buzz likely also will center around Samford. The Bulldogs' entrance into the SoCon became official this summer.
