Former ASU golf coach leads Georgia Women's Open

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 (AP) -- Augusta amateur Laura Coble shot a 3-under-par 69 to lead the first round of the Yamaha Georgia Women's Open by two shots.

Alone at 71 at the Canongate at SummerGrove Golf Club in Newnan
is former University of Georgia golfer Jackie Syzmoniak, who now
lives in Newnan.

Six players are tied for third place at 72, including former Georgia Women's Open champions Krissie Register of Roswell, Summe Sirmons of Atlanta and Margaret Shirley of Roswell, who recentl graduated from Auburn.

Coble hit 11 out of 14 fairways, 14 out of 18 greens, and took just 29 putts, including four birdies. Her lone bogey was on the par 4 18th hole. Syzmoniak was 4-under through 15 but had a double-bogey on the par 3 No. 16.

The final round will be this afternoon.
