HOOVER, Ala. (AP) -- Pedro Alvarez and Andrew Giobbi each hit
two-run homers to help Vanderbilt beat South Carolina 7-5 today in
the Southeastern Conference tournament.

The Gamecocks are eliminated from the tournament, while the
Commodores must beat Mississippi twice tomorrow to advance to the
championship game. South Carolina trailed 7-1 after starter Nick Christiani went 6 1/3 solid innings.

But Phil Disher helped the Gamecocks wipe out most of that
deficit, hitting a three-run homer to right in the eighth to key a
four-run inning. South Carolina came within a few feet of tying the game in the ninth, but Reese Havens fly ball was caught a few feet short of the wall after Scott Wingo drew a one-out walk.
