COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says
his team played ragged in its first scrimmage of spring practice. he battle for starting quarterback continued Saturday, as sophomore Chris Smelly took the majority on the snaps, going 15-of-26 for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
Junior Tommy Beecher went 8-of-20 for 90 yards and a touchdown. he rushing game struggled, losing nine yards on 36 carries. Bobby Wallace led the team with 26 yards on two attempts.
Ryan Succop made all three of his field goals, including one
from 51 yards. purrier says he is especially worried about his offensive line and third downs. The Gamecocks will play their spring game April 19.
