COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Fighting and resisting arrest charges have
been dropped for South Carolina offensive lineman Kevin Young. The 20-year-old redshirt freshman was ticketed by Columbia police early on the morning of March 2 for his role in a fight at a nightclub area near campus.
Police spokesman Brick Lewis said Friday the department decided
to drop the charges but would not elaborate. Days after the 6-foot-4, 320-pounder was charged, Columbia city manager Charles Austin asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate whether officers had used excessive force. Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier had said that Young and other witnesses claimed police hit the player several times during the encounter.
