HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) -- Jeff Gordon bounced back from a hard crash
last week in Las Vegas by winning the pole for the NASCAR Sprint
Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Gordon posted a fast lap of 185.251 miles per hour at the mile
and a-half Atlanta oval to easily beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the
pole for Sunday's race.
Martin Truex Jr. made it a sweep of the top three places for
Chevrolet with a lap of 183.807. Carl Edwards, who has two wins in a row, qualified fourth. Six-time Atlanta winner Bobby Labonte qualified fifth in a Dodge.
