GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Nick Calathes scored 17 points and had seven assists to help Florida snap a two-game losing streak with an 85-82 win over South Carolina tonight.
South Carolina trimmed a 17-point deficit to 83-82 with 7.5 seconds to play, but Jai Lucas sank both free throws to increase Florida's lead to three.
The Gators fouled Devan Downey with 2.2 seconds left, sending him to the line for a one-and-one. He was supposed to make the first one and intentionally miss the second, but he missed the first and Florida ran out the clock.
Downey and Evaldas Baniulis each scored 18 points, while Mike Holmes had 16 points and eleven rebounds off the bench for the Gamecocks.
