Georgia Tech's women are in the top 25 for the first time since 1993 after coming close to a huge upset. The Yellow Jackets, at Number 23, fell to Number four Maryland in double overtime Sunday.
Tech coach MaChelle Joseph said the Jackets had four starters back, and getting a national ranking was one of the goals set by the team. She said to get in after a loss is both rewarding and a "great accomplishment."
Georgia Tech hosts Number 10 Duke on Thursday.
The Yellow Jackets have only lost at North Carolina, at Maryland and at Georgia. The Lady Bulldogs beat Alabama, but that was on the heels of two straight losses, so Georgia dropped from Number 12 to Number 17.
Syracuse also entered The Associated Press poll -- for the first time ever. The Orange are at Number 24 after giving top-ranked Connecticut its toughest game of the season.
