Division I board talks, then sends playoff proposal to committee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ University of Georgia President Michael Adams presented his proposal for a major college football championship playoff today to the NCAA Division I board of directors.

The board decided to have a task force study the issue before making any moves.

Adams favors for an eight-team playoff using the four BCS games bowl games as a starting point. The winners of the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl would meet in semifinals, to be followed by a championship game between the winners of that game.

Adams presented the proposal to the board during the NCAA convention in Nashville.

The board decided instead to let a task force that is supposed to study issues over commercial use of student likenesses' expand its review to include the playoff issue.

The task force hasn't been named, and there's no timeline for a report.
