Spurrier says new coordinators should bring change to Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's Steve Spurrier sounded like a candidate stumping for votes today instead of a head ball coach introducing new coordinators.

Spurrier says new defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder and special teams coordinator Ray Rychleski can make much-needed changes in the Gamecocks.

South Carolina started 6-1 in 2007, rising to Number Six in the country before losing its last five games and missing a bowl.

VanGorder says he thinks the Gamecocks' defense is full of playmakers who are a bit inconsistent.

Rychleski says he thinks the special teams have talent, especially triple-threat kicker Ryan Succop.

Rychleski says his philosophy is fundamentals over gimmicks.
