Williston, SC-Ever since their opening week loss to Strom Thurmond, Williston Elko has been a team on a mission. Now in late November, that mission of winning a second straight state title is within reach. But they'll have to go through a familiar foe to finish the drill.
Blue Devils set to battle Scott's Branch for a third straight time. Both previous games have been close and last year it came down to the final minutes before the Devils could raise the trophy. This also marks the last game dad, coach Dwayne Garrick, coaches son, quarterback Tamyn "Gator" Garrick. They're trying not to think about it.
"I've been trying not to." said Tamyn Garrick "You know it's been a special four years for me getting the chance the opportunity to play for my dad. So it's been real fun and every good thing has to come to an end though."
"It's going to be an emotional day Friday." said coach Dwayne Garrick "I'll be tied up more in the ballgame but I'm sure towards the end it'll hit me. He's just a great kid and I love him to death and it'll make for something interesting towards the end on Friday."
Yes, mom has had to play role of the ref on occasions, but not too often coach Garrick says. As far as the game goes, Scott's Branch will again be hard pressed to slow down that vaunted offense. That's a 3pm kick at Benedict College in Columbia.
