Edgefield, SC--If you happen upon a Wardlaw Academy practice now-a-days you'll probably be able to see the smiles from the road. Winning is the norm for the Patriots and after a tough season last year, this is a squad loaded for bear.
But these guys are the bears and its starts up front. A huge front line that you don't see everyday for eight man football teams. Heck, they go on average around 240. Throw in all sorts of experience in quarterback Bailey Pendarvis and running back Jordan Faust, and they're going to be good. There's also a little payback they're ready to dole out.
"It does, we look forward to meeting that team we lost to again," says Pendarvis. "We've been thinking about it, and we know we got to work hard, get in shape so we can go hard so we can finish good this year."
"We've had a great summer program, and our guys have been in the weight room since last spring," says Coach Chalmers Carr. "They worked out all summer long but yeah, they have gotten bigger. I tell you what, I'd like to be a running back behind these guys!"
All told, they only lost two seniors a year ago and now have seven on a squad of 17. Between the size, speed and skill, these kids are ready to add another state title to a program use to hoisting a trophy in the last game of the year.
