Tough non-region schedule will put Laney to the test

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

Augusta, Ga--A ten win season and a deep run into the state playoffs. It was quite the year for the Laney Wildcats. They didn't reach the ultimate goal, but the success has added motivation for this year's cats to do bigger and maybe even better things.

What we can expect from this year's cats is a team with playmakers. Vicente Thompkins slides over to quarterback from wide receiver and has guys around him that can hit the big play. Coach Lemuel Lackey has loaded up on a non region schedule and he's hoping it'll make this squad stronger when the region slate begins.

"The biggest thing was, we were finding it hard to find people who wanted to play us" said Lemuel Lackey "When you have a good season liike that people are kind of skeptical, especially if they think you have enough kids coming back. We've got some playmakers that I think will do some big things this year and that started the trend but more then anything we wanted to test ourselves."

"To push me to keep the pride alive around here in the city." said Robert Clark "Just keep grinding" simple as that? "Simple as that, that's all we have to do, just keep griding"

Keep an eye on guys like Rico Meriweather and Craig Hinson on defense. A couple of guys that coach Lackey is really high on. Making a run last year gave them confidence and now if they just put in a little more work, they could be a title contender come late November.
