Saluda, SC--If there is a sleeper team in the area in South Carolina it might just be Saluda. Doug Painter is in his third year as head coach and these kids have learned how to win.
Not just win, but win at a young age. This year's tiger team will feature only a handful of seniors and a big group of juniors. They'll run out of the wing-t with two new backs, but guys like Devonta Brown who tote the mail so to speak. Another change, a can do attitude. You'd be surprised how much that can make a difference.
"Last year it really showed us what we can do." said Tra Norris "This season I know we can do a step up from that level."
"Now they show up to practice with a different attitude." said coach Doug Painter "We've got a good group of juniors especially. We have a small number of seniors, not a lot, but they'll be very important to us, but the junior class is just bigger and we just knew if could keep that group together then we could builld on things then we had a chance to be better."
Saluda went six and six a year ago and won a playoff game for the first time in quite some time. They also lost three games by seven points or less. Learning how to finish strong has been a point of emphasis and if they can do that, the Tigers may be on the prowl.
