Lincolnton, GA--There are some things you can count on in life, traffic back ups on I-20, death, taxes, and Lincoln County playing late into November. For the ninth straight time, the red devils are into the state quarterfinals.
For the second straight year, they'll be playing Savannah Christian. Coach Campbell knows his kids will have their hands full but loves the passion and pride his team plays with. Nobody expected them to be still playing this late, but here they are. One of the winningest coaches in the country is just enjoying the ride so to speak.
"It's a very special group." says Lincoln County coach Larry Campbell "It's been one of my best years discipline wise, no problems. Our kids hurt, putting on the yellow jerseys and still practicing. Just coaching wise and everything I can think of as making it a good year has been super."
"Well we had a lot of seniors last year that we lost and it's really going to mean something to them." said Steven Morris "We promised them we'd make it to state for them and Savannah Christian is on the list and revenge is going to be sweet."
Savannah Christian may pose their biggest challenge to date as they'll play power football plain and simple. Last year, they won a dog fight with the Red Devils 7-0 in a game Campbell says he didn't coach too well at the end. That's a 6pm kick off in Lincolnton Friday night.
