Edgefield, SC--They have been on a mission since day one and now Strom Thurmond is two steps away from winning the whole ball of wax and claiming a state title. You want to talk about a juggernaut, this year's Rebels are just that.
From a defense that stands you up and knocks you to the ground, to an offense that has set all sorts of records for points scored in a year, this is one solid team top to bottom. When you're undefeated and know you're pretty good there's bound to be a let down along the way. Hasn't happened with this squad as they've kept the pedal to the medal all season long
"There's been a couple of weeks, you know, they're kids and they're smart enough to know." said coach Lee Sawyer "There were a couple of weeks that they probably knew but you couldn't tell it by the way they prepared, the way they played. I think they've had the focus to be around this time of year which is good."
"Everybody has had the mind set to come to practice and just to be good." said Nick Clark "When everybody is on the same page then that's what makes the defense click."
Now it's onto the state semifinals where they'll travel to undefeated Woodruff Friday night. With an experienced quarterback like Raliegh Yelldel and their leading rusher Malcolm Watkins running full throttle, it would come as no shock the rebels got the job done and played for a title in a week and a half time.
