North Augusta, SC--Winning breeds winning. Ask any coach and they'll tell you that. At North Augusta, the winning tradition is back in a big way as they are getting closer to becoming one of the elite programs in the state of South Carolina.
What Dan Pippin has accomplished with the jackets is to replace quality with quality. Despite losing Vinnie Miller and Montez Mcguire, other kids are ready to step in and be relied upon. Look for the names Devonte Pressley and Cody Turner to become more prevelant. Throw in some size, something they haven't had a ton of in the past, and look out.
"You know offensive line wise we're pretty big, defensive line wise, we're pretty big." said Dan Pippin "I think defensively we're faster and more atheltic then we have been in the last couple of years, not to take anything away from those kids. I'm pretty happy with how we're doing right now."
North Augusta is also getting these kids used to winning big games on the road in november. They've been bounced in the semis the last two years so Dan Pippin conitnues to beef up the schedule knowing the odds are good they'll have to travel away from home late in the playoffs.
"I think it shows a lot. That we can go on the road and scrimmage and play just as good so when the game comes it'll just be like a scrimmage again." said Trey Morgan
"I would love to tell you we could be in the semifinals at home but realistically I don't know if that can happen" added coach Pippin "So I think this is going to be a great experience for the kids but it's also a learning opportunity for us."
To that end, they've already scrimmaged Goose Creek and will do so with Greenwood. Then in the regular season, a trip to T.L. Hanna and then a game in Atlanta against Valdosta. All with the goal of getting these kids use to playing on a big stage.
