Washington, Ga--Washington Wilkes has had a great tradition for football. Heck it wasn't that long ago they were playing Lincoln County for a state title. It's been a tough go of it the last few seasons and now the emphasis is returning to the winning ways.
It all starts at the top with Robbie Robinson stepping in as new head coach. Robinson is loving the atmosphere and the commitment the school and community has for it's kids. With only seven seniors, he also knows it's going to be a work in progress. They have skill guys back but are going to be very young up front.
"The old saying is you got to get better every week and that's all we're really focused on." said new coach Robbie Robinson "We just got to go out and play every Friday night and hopefully improve as we get into region play and hopefully by the end of the season we stay healthy and get hot."
"The strength of this squad, like I said, is we have a lot of guys who want to be out here every day." said David Martin "A lot of hard working players, I mean if we continue to work hard we can do something this year."
Part of the new commitment is a new weight room, where there's all new equipment. Now the guys have to put in the time. Wilkes is thrown right into the fire battling Thomson Friday night.
