Lions expect big things in Pride Valley

Great expectations. Every team has them, but very few can deliver. At Augusta Christian this year, they feel reaching those lofty expectations are very obtainable.

Martinez, GA--Great expectations. Every team has them, but very few can deliver. At Augusta Christian this year, they feel reaching those lofty expectations are very obtainable.

A year ago, the Lions were one win away from the state title game. Taking the next step is the number one priority this fall and they have a new attitude to do just that. Part of that is the experience factor. Ask any guy on the roster, and they'll tell you; no screwing around during practices, no taking things for granted. They're putting in the hard work and expect it to pay off Friday nights.

"We've worked this summer, worked a lot harder this year," says senior Eric Fogle. "Practices will be better this year, a lot more time management during practice, not wasted time."

"Those guys have grown up, and they see what it's going to take based on what the seniors did last year as well as the year before, those guys as well," says Coach Keith Walton. "These guys have caught on to it. It's their goal, their love, and I'm just trying to manage the group and not mess it up."

Yes, they lost play maker Matt Rogers but bring back pretty much everyone else. From the guys up front on both sides of the ball to third year quarterback Tyler Roberson and running backs Thomas Banks and Sean Sweeting. This could be a versatile attack that will be tough to defend.

"You know our approach to that is whatever it takes to score," says Roberson. "If we need to wear down that defense as long as we want to, we'll do that. We can pound the ball. If we want to take shots, we can do that too. You know it's all about Coach Walton's mentality, whatever it takes to get to the end zone."

Coach Walton also has more depth at most positions so that will open up a few more options. Great expectations means winning a state title. Is it doable? Everyone in Pride Valley thinks so.
