Laney's Leo Myers shines in win over East Laurens

One team that has certainly gotten better as the season has gone on and actually flown under the radar of many is the Laney Wildcats. We head down to Laney Walker Boulevard for our Operation Football Live player of the week, quarterback Leo Myeres.

This past Friday night against East Laurens, it was Myers letting his feet do the talking. 20 carries for 176 yards and five touchdowns, including a 63 yarder. Myers was first a starter midway through his freshman year. That season he felt a lot of hurt when the Wildcats lost on homecoming. Now a senior, Myers had that fresh in his mind and made sure that didn't happen in his homecoming game.

"My ninth grade year, my first year starting, when I was a freshmen, was homecoming, on varsity." said Leo Myers "We came up short and me looking at the seniors then, in my mind, that image always stayed in my mind."

"Anytime you're a senior and it's your homecoming game, and we had a tremendous crowd out here and I know he wanted to perform well out here for those guys." said coach Lemuel Lackey "But at the same time he remembered the first one and we spoke upon that at the beginning of the game and I'm happy for the guy."

Whether its by design or not, Myers role has expanded as his high school career has gone on. Without wide receiver extraordinaire Rod Hall, Myers has taken even more responsibility this season and has led Laney to a five and one record. For his efforts, we honor him as our OFL player of the week.
